Hot off the presses is a set of six postcards showcasing paintings from the Santa Ynez River and watershed. The front of the 6x8 postcards features artwork from the River's Journey Project, developed by six artists who call themselves Rose Compass. The backside features a map indicating the route to the location where the paintings were created.
The postcards were made to promote the goal of the Healthy People Healthy Trails initiative to encourage community members to connect to an active life; connect to the outdoors. This connection with nature was made possible by a grant from CenCal Health.
The postcards complement the artist's exhibit: The River's Journey: A Wider View at the Sullivan Goss Gallery. Rose Compass artists include Connie Connally, Holli Harmon, Libby Smith, Nicole Strasburg, Nina Warner, and Pamela Zwehl-Burke.
Below are a few of the images the artists painted along the Santa Ynez river and the watershed that feeds it. A map is provided with directions to the spot the painting was made. We hope you will visit the next exhibit, see the artwork in a gallery setting, and then grab a postcard to take with you and explore where it was painted.
