Founded in 1967, the Trails Council has a long history of advocating for and supporting new trails. In this century, we have undertaken numerous projects, including trail building, mapping, securing a coastal development permit for the City of Goleta, and backing the publication of a guidebook to the California Missions Trail, among others. New trail projects are our core business. From initial scoping to completion, most projects take ten years or more to complete. Trails that burned in the Thomas Fire, Alisal Fire, and Lake Fire were severely damaged by the fire and the next two winter seasons. We had to rebuild the trails two or three times due to the impact of multiple winter storms.
The following list of projects includes trail studies, trail design, mapping, maintenance, wayfinding, and advocacy.
