2025 Project Update
The Trails Council is actively supporting the development of a General Plan Update for the Gaviota Coast area State Parks. We advocate for improving the trail system with new trails and improving existing trails. Each year, the Trails Council surveys trail conditions and organizes volunteer trail maintenance events between November and February. Information about Gaviota State Park trails is featured on our website and elsewhere online.

Project History
Location:
Gaviota State Park, Gaviota, CA
Description:
For over a decade, the Trails Council has collaborated with California State Parks personnel to reconstruct and rehabilitate over five miles of trails within the 5,000-acre Gaviota State Park. In the previous decade, trails had become overgrown, and natural events such as fires and erosion have severely damaged the trail system, with some trails disappearing entirely. The Trails Council mobilized crews for numerous work parties to repair and rehabilitate the trails, enhancing accessibility and sustainability. Additionally, two new trail kiosks and more than 20 wayfinding signs were designed and installed to improve the visitor experience.
Client:
California State Parks | Channel Coast District
Funding:
Trail reconstruction and rehabilitation were funded by $10,000 in grants to the Trails Council from the California Parks Foundation Fund and contributions from community members.
