[NOVEMBER 2020 UPDATE: the new bridge is being installed]. We are looking forward to announcing the opening of new trails at Baron Ranch early in 2021. We are confident that you will achieve personal satisfaction knowing that your donation, whether small or large made a difference in creating miles of new trails across Baron Ranch and ultimately a connection to a new trail through Los Padres National Forest that extends to the ridgeline of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Your donation, added to funds from other community members, the Sierra Club, County of Santa Barbara, and UCSB Coastal Fund, will ensure the $365,000 project is fully funded.
Project Components
The project will include the installation of a new 65-foot diameter vehicle turnaround, a bridge, gates and fences, small kiosk, wayfinding signs, interpretive signs, trail improvements, and erosion control. Existing dirt ranch roads would be converted to multi-use trails. Best Management Practices (BMPs) such as erosion control techniques, revegetation, and living fencing such as poison oak and blackberry to control access, would be implemented to minimize potential environmental effects of all trail improvements on adjacent sensitive habitats. Vehicle and trailer parking would be provided by existing road shoulders within existing County right-of-way at the end of Calle Real and located immediately east of the Baron Ranch entrance gate.
