The May 2024 issue of the County of Santa Barbara newsletter featured an article called “The Importance of Trails in Santa Barbara County.” Written by the County Parks Division, the piece celebrates how trails connect people with nature, link our communities, and provide access to some of the most beautiful landscapes on the Central Coast.
Santa Barbara County’s mix of coastline, foothills, and mountains creates incredible diversity in scenery and wildlife. Trails make it possible for everyone to explore these areas while staying active and enjoying the outdoors. As the article reminds readers, trails are one of our most valuable community assets, yet they remain free for everyone to use.
The County also recognized the many partners who help maintain and protect our trail network. Community organizations such as the Santa Barbara County Trails Council, Montecito Trails Foundation, Sage Trail Alliance, and Los Padres Forest Association all play key roles in caring for trails and expanding access for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.
Trail infrastructure is an important part of our quality of life. It connects historic routes, parks, and open spaces, giving people the chance to experience nature and learn about the history of our region.
