Trail Highlights
Jesusita Trail weaves through a mix of city, county, and private lands, beginning just past the Cater Water Treatment plant at the end of San Roque Road. It connects with Stevens Park Trail—offering restroom facilities, a playground, and seating areas—and then ascends San Roque Canyon through lush riparian zones and chaparral. At its summit, known as Inspiration Point (1,800 feet), hikers are treated to panoramic views of the City, Lauro Canyon Reservoir, and the Channel Islands.
Trail Description
This 7-mile out-and-back route is a popular choice for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. The trail’s wide, well-maintained path provides good footing on the ascent to Inspiration Point, where oak trees offer refreshing shade on hot days. The descent along the back side of the mountain leads to a junction with Tunnel Trail along Tunnel Road, completing a moderately challenging adventure that typically takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete.
Directions
Begin your journey near Lauro Canyon Reservoir at the Cater Water Treatment plant on San Roque Road. Follow the Jesusita Trail as it climbs steadily toward Inspiration Point, then continue down the back side of the mountain to meet Tunnel Trail along Tunnel Road.
