Trail Highlights
The San Ysidro Trail offers hikers a journey through diverse ecosystems, beginning in the riparian habitats of San Ysidro Canyon and ascending to the oak woodlands and chaparral near East Camino Cielo. Along the trail, adventurers can discover several pools and a seasonal 50-foot waterfall, especially impressive after significant rainfall. At the trail's summit, panoramic vistas encompass the Channel Islands and the Montecito area, providing rewarding views for the strenuous ascent.

Trail Description
Starting near East Mountain Drive in Montecito, the San Ysidro Trail begins as a dirt path that parallels residential areas before fully immersing hikers in the natural beauty of San Ysidro Canyon. The initial segment is relatively gentle, guiding hikers alongside the creek with opportunities to observe minor cascades and unique rock formations. Approximately two miles in, the trail crosses San Ysidro Creek and becomes steeper, with switchbacks leading through dense chaparral. This section demands a higher fitness level due to its elevation gain. The trail culminates at East Camino Cielo Road, where expansive coastal and inland views await.

Directions
From Highway 101, take the San Ysidro Road exit and head north toward the mountains. Proceed for about one mile to East Valley Road and turn right. After approximately 0.5 miles, turn left onto Park Lane, then right onto East Mountain Drive. The trailhead is located near the intersection of East Mountain Drive and Park Lane. Parking is limited; ensure your vehicle does not block residential driveways or impede traffic.
