Trail Description
The hike begins at the trailhead on Romero Canyon Road, passing a locked gate and following the remnants of the old Romero Road. After approximately 0.5 miles, a sign marks the start of the single-track canyon trail, which branches off to the left. This section follows the creek, offering a tranquil forest experience with several creek crossings. After about 2 miles, the trail intersects with the old road, providing options to return via the road for a loop hike or continue ascending the canyon trail. The upper trail involves switchbacks through chaparral and leads to East Camino Cielo Road at the crest, rewarding hikers with expansive coastal and backcountry views.
Directions
From Highway 101, take the Sheffield Drive exit and follow it to East Valley Road. Turn left, then almost immediately right onto Romero Canyon Road. Continue for approximately 1.5 miles to the trailhead, marked by a locked red steel gate.
