Trail Description
The trail begins in Tucker’s Grove Park, a historic oak grove that has served as a public gathering spot since the late 1800s. From the parking area, hikers can follow the "Bridle Path" sign or walk through Kiwanis Meadows to access the trail.
The path gently winds alongside San Antonio Creek, providing a cool, shaded route even during warmer months. The riparian ecosystem here is rich with native plants, and the creek often has flowing water, especially after winter rains. As the trail progresses, hikers will encounter small footbridges and natural rock crossings. The gradual incline makes it a comfortable trek for beginners, families, and those looking for a casual nature walk.
Trail Highlights
San Antonio Creek Trail is a peaceful, family-friendly hike nestled in the foothills of Santa Barbara. Following the gentle course of San Antonio Creek, the trail is shaded by towering oaks and sycamores, making it an excellent option for a leisurely stroll or a nature walk with children. The route offers opportunities to observe local wildlife, including birds and small mammals, and serves as a great example of post-wildfire recovery, as much of the area regrew after the 1990 Painted Cave Fire.
With an easy, mostly flat path, this trail is perfect for all ages and skill levels. Starting from Tucker’s Grove Park, it also offers convenient picnic areas and a playground, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing outdoor outing.
