Upcoming and Current Events

Volunteer Day at Baron Ranch

Runners for Public Lands is hosting a trail maintenance day at Baron Ranch on Saturday, March 28th. The event is led by the Los Padres Forest Association trail work crew and managed by Runners for Public Lands Staff and Ambassadors.

The Trails Council is organizing a same-day volunteer event to coincide with the Runners for Public Lands work day. With nine miles of trails heavily damaged by winter storms and the rapid growth of invasive weeds, we need all the help we can muster.

We will be working on the Arroyo Quemado Trail, clearing invasive mustard and thistle with electric weed whackers and removing debris along the trail. The weather forecast is for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 78°F, accompanied by northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.

We will begin at 8:45 AM, so please arrive early. All necessary tools will be provided, but note that we will hike for a half-mile before starting our work.

Here are some important details to remember:

  • Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, and eye protection (sunglasses are acceptable).
  • Wear long pants and sturdy shoes (no sandals or shorts).
  • Please be at the gate by 8:45 AM or earlier to sign waivers and attend a brief safety and tool talk.
  • Don't forget your work gloves. If you don’t have any, we will have some available for use.
