Extending roughly 220 miles from north to south, the forest is divided into two main sections. The northern division covers parts of Monterey and northern San Luis Obispo Counties, featuring the rugged beauty of the Big Sur Coast and its inland landscapes. The larger, or “main,” division includes areas of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Kern Counties, offering a diverse mix of mountains, canyons, and coastline.
